SummaryBook sample
With the publication of this book, SEGAS implements the first stage of applying an integrated training and competition plan for developmental age groups.
The book is based on the publications of the World Athletics (WA) governing body relating to the Kids’ Athletics programme. As it is primarily aimed at new coaches, the authoring team considered it appropriate to add further information on developing strategies for more effective training during childhood. In addition, a substantial number of new teaching cards and competition activities have been included, most of which are drawn from Greek tradition. Taking the Greek context into account, additional organisational guidance is also provided for conducting the competition activities.
The book consists of three chapters:
- The first chapter explores the development of a coaching philosophy and the corresponding code of conduct for training during childhood.
- The second chapter presents the IAAF teaching cards (110) and the new cards (50) relating to educational and traditional games.
- The third chapter presents the competition activities and provides organisational guidance for their delivery in the U12, U10 and U8 categories.
- The appendix includes forms/tables for conducting the competition activities.
With this publication, SEGAS aims to support coaches working at the grassroots level of the sporting pyramid. At the same time, this publication is a useful tool for primary-school physical education teachers, as well as coaches in other sports working with youth development groups.
