The Hoka Cielo X1 2.0 is a high-performance road racing shoe designed for runners seeking maximum speed and performance over distances from 5 km to the half marathon. The new version is significantly lighter than the previous model, with updated geometry that enhances explosiveness and the feeling of speed.

The midsole consists of a dual layer of PEBA foam, a material renowned for its exceptional resilience and energy return. A carbon-fibre plate is integrated within it, with an aggressive curved geometry that acts like a catapult forwards. The specialised meta-rocker design contributes to a rapid heel-to-toe transition, delivering a smooth feel and dynamic propulsion with every step.

Stability is enhanced through intelligent construction, as the model uses J-Frame™ technology to limit excessive inward rolling without sacrificing freedom of movement. At the same time, the cut-out in the midsole reduces weight and makes the ride quicker, although good technique is required to maintain stability at slower paces.

The upper is made from engineered jacquard mesh with recycled polyester, offering high breathability and stretch. The tongue and collar design has been improved, ensuring a better fit and secure foot lockdown, even at fast paces. The outsole provides strong, effective grip, allowing stable running across different road surfaces.

In terms of technical specifications, the Hoka Cielo X1 2.0 features a 7 mm drop and a stack height of 48 mm at the heel and 41 mm at the forefoot, offering an ideal balance of cushioning and propulsion. The men’s version weighs approximately 202 grams (US 8.5), while the women’s version weighs approximately 180 grams (US W8), making it impressively lightweight and suitable for race performance.
