The energy gels from Hammer Nutrition are the benchmark for energy products!
A quick look at the list of ingredients on the label will tell you why:
- Maltodextrin – A high-glycemic-index (GI) polysaccharide, ideal for providing immediate and long-lasting energy during exercise and replenishing the body’s glycogen stores after exercise.
- Energy Smart® (Grape Juice, Rice Dextrin) – An entirely natural, low-sugar sweetener. It contributes significantly to the great taste of the energy gels without increasing their monosaccharide content.
- Citric Acid – Used in minimal quantities to comply with FDA guidelines. Hammer Nutrition gels contain less citric acid than similar products.
- Salt – Added in a small quantity to contribute to preservation, taste and gel absorption. It is not a source of electrolytes (see the Endurolytes® products).
- L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, L-Valine – BCAAs amino acids for protecting muscle tissue and delaying fatigue!
- L-Alanine – This amino acid is used in energy metabolism, especially when carbohydrate stores are depleted.
- Potassium Chloride – A source of potassium and sodium.
- Cyclic Dextrose – Used as a natural ingredient.

We use long-chain complex carbohydrates for the smooth and steady release of energy. There is only a trace amount of simple sugars, so HAMMER GEL does not cause an immediate insulin spike during exercise. This could result in sudden energy fluctuations and may be detrimental to your performance. Hammer Gels do not contain saturated, inexpensive, ineffective, low-quality sugars that may harm your health and performance.
Hammer Nutrition energy gels contain no artificial colours or artificial sweeteners. The product is certified Kosher.
Simple sugars such as sucrose, fructose and galactose double osmolarity and draw fluids and electrolytes across the entire stomach lining. As a result, fluids and electrolytes are not available for energy production, while gastric distress, cramps, nausea and premature fatigue may occur. Sugar is defined as either a monosaccharide or a disaccharide. The shorter the chain length, the higher the osmolarity of the solution in the stomach. Simple sugar must be mixed at a concentration of 6–8%; otherwise, it will simply remain in the stomach, unable to pass through the gastric membrane, potentially causing an upset stomach, cramps or nausea. Therefore, a gel containing 24 g of simple carbohydrate would require at least 300 ml of water!
The maltodextrin contained in Hammer’s energy gel consists of multiple sugar molecules linked together, allowing absorption in solutions with a concentration of 18% to 24%, thereby enabling immediate transport to the liver, where it is converted into muscle glycogen.
The amylose–amylopectin content of maltodextrin and potato starch is chemically similar to muscle glycogen. Therefore, the “gold standard” for energy drinks, bars or gels is longer-chain carbohydrates (maltodextrins), because larger amounts of energy are absorbed more easily by the athlete. In addition, as body-fluid pressures change when temperature and humidity deplete the body’s stores, the electrolyte loss associated with added sugars may cause dilutional hyponatremia.
