AMILA 28MM RUBBER-COATED WEIGHT PLATE WITH ABS RING 10KG 44474

The AMILA Rubber Cover A 28mm weight plate range is the TOP choice of weight plates for 28mm barbells and dumbbells. All materials used are of the highest available quality. The rubber used is 70% virgin rubber, increasing the plate’s durability and drastically reducing unpleasant odours, while the processing of this special rubber provides an excellent appearance and textured finish. Finally, unlike most other comparable products, this AMILA weight plate range also includes an ABS ring (a particularly durable plastic also used in AMILA foam rollers), making changing plates effortless.

Although weight plates may appear to be a simple product, they are in fact considerably more complex. The manufacturing process required to achieve a very good result is difficult and complex, while quality varies significantly from one plate to another. We will explain the process and what consumers should consider before making a purchase.

One of the first factors that makes a difference in a weight plate is its thickness. This is because cast iron is an alloy of iron and carbon. The thicker the plate, the less iron the alloy contains; therefore, the cheaper the product, but also of lower quality.

For good-quality plates, the weight may vary by +/- 5%. If it is more than this, the quality of the plate and of the factory process is not good.

The finishing process is as follows. First, once removed from the mould, the plate is ground and smoothed (not as thoroughly as with plain enamel). If the factory is good, it then places it in a rubber mould, and the layer is thick enough to provide protection. In cheaper products, the rubber-coating process is carried out simply by dipping the plate in hot rubber. However, this does not provide the necessary rubber thickness and therefore the necessary protection. Naturally, this results in a lower price but also an inferior product. One way to check this is to press your fingernail into it to feel whether it sinks in or whether it feels as though it is touching the iron directly. Finally, the rubber compound plays an important role. In very cheap products, the virgin rubber content is below 30%, resulting in less protection and an unpleasant odour. AMILA plates contain a 70% blend of virgin rubber.

Finally, the plastic in the ring must be of good quality to prevent it from breaking.
