Altra Escalante 4: A Return to Natural Movement and Ultimate Comfort

The Altra Escalante 4 returns as a tribute to the popular 1.5 and 2.0 versions, offering an improved combination of natural movement, flexibility and light weight. Designed as the ultimate everyday shoe, it is ideal for both fast road workouts and daily walks, allowing the foot to function exactly as nature intended.

Midsole Technology and Cushioning

At the core of the Escalante 4’s performance is Altra EGO™ technology. This midsole foam delivers an ideal balance of responsiveness and comfort, ensuring a lively feel underfoot while protecting against impact.

The Stack Height is 24mm. However, the feature that sets it apart is Balanced Cushioning™ (Zero Drop). This means that the heel and forefoot are at the same level (0mm drop). This design promotes natural body alignment and encourages a more natural stride with midfoot or forefoot landing, reducing stress on the joints and helping to reduce injuries.

Fit Design and Upper Materials

The shoe features Altra’s signature FootShape™ Fit in the Original version. This is the brand’s roomiest fit, allowing the toes to spread and move freely while mimicking the foot’s natural anatomy. This extra space improves stability and balance.

The upper is made from Engineered Knit. This material provides a sock-like fit, comfortably wrapping the foot while ensuring excellent breathability to help keep feet cool.

Outsole Technology and Flexibility

The outsole is made from durable Rubber and incorporates FootPod™ technology. This technology follows the natural structure of the human foot, ensuring maximum flexibility and allowing the shoe to flex and move naturally in sync with your body. In addition, the midsole features InnerFlex™ grooves that reduce weight and increase flexibility, enhancing responsiveness at toe-off.
