Premium protection, designed for running when others stay indoors. The Ronhill Men’s Tech GORE-TEX Mercurial Jacket 2 is not just another waterproof jacket; it is a premium technical shell that fits the body and running movement, delivering the sense of security you need in heavy rain, wind and low temperatures. The Ronhill x Mountain Equipment collaboration brings mountain-level outdoor expertise to a running-specific jacket, while GORE-TEX® Active keeps protection high without compromising breathability when intensity increases. This is why it is an investment: it performs where basic jackets simply “promise”.
Ronhill Men’s Tech GORE-TEX Mercurial Jacket 2
If you are looking for a one-jacket solution for running in genuinely poor conditions, this is it. The Mercurial Jacket 2 belongs in the top tier of shells for runners: designed to keep you dry and protected from the wind while also cool when your heart rate rises. This is precisely what justifies its premium price: it is not simply a waterproof jacket, but a high-performance technical tool.
Why it is premium (and why it costs more)
1) GORE-TEX® Active for high intensity
GORE-TEX® Active technology is designed for fast-paced, high-aerobic activities. This means an outstanding balance between waterproof protection and exceptional breathability, so you do not overheat inside the jacket when running hard.
2) ePE membrane & FC-free DWR
The jacket uses GORE-TEX® with an ePE membrane and FC-free DWR. This is a modern, premium approach that combines high-level protection with a cleaner environmental footprint compared with older solutions.
3) Storm-ready construction
Taped seams and YKK AquaGuard® zips are details that set premium jackets apart, as they are designed to reduce water ingress at the points where simpler waterproof jackets commonly fail.
4) Ronhill x Mountain Equipment collaboration
This is outdoor protection expertise translated into a running-specific garment: mountain-level protection, with a running-focused approach to mobility, weight/bulk and practicality.
Details that make a difference when running
- Roll-away hood for when you need protection now but want a clean profile when the weather improves.
- Adjustable hood for a secure fit in wind and rain without compromising visibility.
- Adjustable hem to keep wind out and prevent billowing.
- Adjustable cuffs for a better seal at the wrist and a more secure fit.
- Secure pocket for safely carrying small items while running.
- Relaxed fit for freedom of movement and effective layering (base/mid layer) when temperatures drop.

What this means in practice (Hydrostatic Head & MVTR)
Hydrostatic Head (HH) – “how waterproof it is”
Hydrostatic Head indicates the water pressure a fabric can withstand before leakage occurs. As a practical reference point, a jacket is considered fully waterproof when it withstands the pressure of a 1000mm water column without allowing water through (i.e. HH 1000). With premium shells, the difference is that many GORE fabrics are recognised as exceeding this level by a considerable margin, often > 25.500mm HH, providing confidence in prolonged rain and demanding conditions.
MVTR – “how breathable it is when intensity rises”
MVTR (Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate) measures how quickly water vapour (sweat in vapour form) escapes through the fabric. It is usually expressed as g/m²/day. As it is affected by many variables, including temperature, humidity and layers, it should be treated as an indicative guide. The higher the value, the more breathable the jacket: for example, 20.000 MVTR is noticeably more breathable than 10.000, but less so than 30.000. With so many variables involved, Gore does not usually provide a definitive MVTR figure; however, comfort feedback at high intensity indicates exceptionally high breathability, especially in constructions such as GORE-TEX® Active, which are made for fast running.
